Devotional on Genesis 15:6 – Faith Like Abraham’s
Genesis 15:6
“And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.”
In Genesis 15, we encounter a pivotal moment in the life of Abraham. God takes him outside and shows him the stars, promising that his descendants will be as numerous. In that moment of wonder, Abraham believes God. This belief isn’t just a mental agreement; it’s a deep, heart-rooted trust in the Lord’s promises. This act of faith becomes the cornerstone of Abraham’s relationship with God and is later celebrated in Scripture as a defining mark of righteousness.
Abraham’s belief challenges us today. In a world filled with uncertainty and doubt, we are called to emulate his faith. What does it look like to believe God fully? It means trusting in His character and His promises even when circumstances seem to contradict them. Like Abraham, we often find ourselves facing daunting challenges—be it financial struggles, health issues, or relationship conflicts. Yet, in these moments, God invites us to look up beyond our immediate situations and remember His eternal promises.
When God “counted it to him as righteousness,” it signifies more than divine approval; it establishes a transformative relationship. Righteousness is not attained through human effort or morality; it is a gift to those who believe. As New Testament believers, this truth rings even truer through Jesus Christ, who fulfilled the law and offers us righteousness through faith.
Today, consider how you can cultivate a faith like Abraham’s. Reflect on the promises of God in your life and choose to trust Him, believing that He will fulfill every word spoken. Let that faith overshadow your doubts, and watch how it transforms your relationship with God and your perspective on life’s challenges.
Thank You and God Bless
