Devotional on 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 – Victory Over Death
“Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

As we reflect on the profound truth of 1 Corinthians 15:55-57, we are reminded that death is not the end, but rather a transition to something greater. The Apostle Paul, in his epistle, boldly confronts death—a reality that often brings fear, sorrow, and uncertainty. Yet, through Christ, we are given assurance of victory over it.
Paul poetically asks, “Where is your victory? Where is your sting?” For those who are in Christ, death has lost its power. The sting that once brought despair is transformed into hope because Jesus conquered death through His resurrection. This victory is not merely symbolic; it is a present reality for believers. The resurrection is our assurance that we too will rise, and that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
It is essential to recognize the context of this victory. The sting of death is sin, and its power is the law. Sin brings separation from God, and through the law, our shortcomings are revealed. However, in Christ, grace abounds. He paid the penalty for our sins, fulfilling the law and allowing us to stand justified before God. In this grace, we find our strength and encouragement.
As we face trials, grief, and the reality of death in our lives, let us hold onto this promise: we are victorious. Our struggles, while real, are temporary. We are called to live in light of eternity, assured that our faith brings us hope beyond this life.
