Sing a New Song
Psalm 98:1 (ESV)“Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.”

Psalm 98:1 opens with a joyful call to worship: “Oh sing to the Lord a new song!” This isn’t just about music—it’s a response to the living God who continues to act in powerful and personal ways. The psalmist urges us to lift our voices in fresh praise because God is always doing something new and marvelous.

The reason for this new song is clear: “for he has done marvelous things.” God is not distant or inactive. He is present and mighty, working wonders in the lives of His people. From the parting of the Red Sea to the provision in the wilderness, from David’s victories to the return from exile—Israel had many reasons to sing. And so do we.

The greatest of God’s marvelous deeds is the salvation He has accomplished through Jesus Christ. The psalm says, “His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.” This speaks of God’s personal involvement in our rescue. He didn’t send another; He came Himself. Jesus, the Son of God, stretched out His hands on the cross and bore our sin to bring us back to God. What greater reason could we have to sing?

To sing a “new song” also means our praise should be fresh and heartfelt. It’s easy to go through the motions of worship, singing familiar words without much thought. But this psalm invites us to reflect deeply on what God has done and to respond with renewed wonder and gratitude.

As you consider God’s faithfulness—His mercy, His strength, His salvation—what new song might rise from your heart today?

Prayer:
Lord, You have done marvelous things. You have saved me, forgiven me, and shown me steadfast love. Stir in me a heart of worship that responds with fresh joy and deep gratitude. Teach me to sing a new song to You, not only with my lips but with my life. Amen.

Thank You and God Bless
