Devotional on Psalm 46:10
Be Still and Know
Psalm 46:10 (ESV) — “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
In a world filled with noise, urgency, and chaos, Psalm 46:10 offers a simple yet profound command: “Be still, and know that I am God.” This verse is not just a call to physical quietness—it’s an invitation to spiritual rest and deep trust in the sovereignty of the Lord.
The psalm as a whole speaks of tumult—earthquakes, roaring waters, nations in uproar. Life can often feel like that—unpredictable, overwhelming, and uncertain. And yet, in the middle of that storm, God says, “Be still.” He does not say, “Figure it out,” or “Take control.” Instead, He calls us to stop striving and recognize who He is.
To be still is to surrender. It’s to let go of the illusion that we are in charge and to rest in the truth that God is. It is in stillness that we begin to know—not just intellectually, but experientially—that God is present, powerful, and faithful. He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
God reminds us, “I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” His purposes will prevail. His name will be honored. Even when the world seems to be falling apart, God’s kingdom is unshakable. He is not panicked. He is not distant. He reigns.
This verse calls us to live with quiet confidence, not because we are in control, but because God is. When anxiety rises or uncertainty clouds our path, we can return to these words: Be still, and know that I am God.
Prayer:
Lord, in the midst of my busyness and worries, teach me to be still. Help me to quiet my heart and remember who You are—sovereign, strong, and near. I surrender my fears and plans to You. Let my soul find rest in Your presence, and may Your name be exalted in my life. Amen.
Thank You and God Bless
