Devotional on Psalm 20:7
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” – Psalm 20:7 (ESV)
In our modern lives, it’s easy to find security in the tangible and familiar. We rely on our jobs, savings accounts, relationships, and technology. Much like the ancient Israelites who found their confidence in military strength and cavalry, we often place our trust in the ‘chariots’ and ‘horses’ of our time.
Psalm 20 paints a powerful picture of reliance and faith. The psalmist contrasts the fleeting comfort of worldly assurance with the everlasting strength of God. The phrase “we will remember the name of the Lord our God” emphasizes commitment and a deliberate choice to place trust in the Divine, rather than earthly power.
This call to remembrance isn’t just for an occasional moment of reflection; it suggests a continual practice of recalling God’s faithfulness and strength. Remembering His name means recognizing His character—His sovereignty, goodness, and mercy. It’s a reminder that despite how robust our human resources may appear, true strength and security reside in God alone.
Consider the challenges you may face today. In moments of uncertainty, where do you place your trust? When circumstances feel overwhelming, are you tempted to rely on your abilities or those around you? This psalm encourages us to actively recall God’s past faithfulness and His promises.
To cultivate trust in God, we can establish spiritual rhythms. Begin your day in prayer, seeking His guidance and strength. Meditate on His Word, allowing the truths within it to shape your thoughts and actions. Surround yourself with a community of believers who uplift and remind you of God’s goodness.
As you move through your day, feel empowered to declare, “I trust in the Lord, not in the chariots or horses of my circumstances.” Let this declaration anchor you, knowing that when we place our trust in Him, we are secure, no matter what comes our way.
Thank You and God Bless
