Devotional on Philippians 3:12 – Pressing On in Faith
“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.” – Philippians 3:12 (ESV)
In his letter to the Philippians, the Apostle Paul expresses a profound understanding of the Christian journey. He acknowledges that despite his accomplishments, he has not achieved perfection. This humility is important for us as believers. No matter how long we’ve been walking with Christ or how much we’ve done for His kingdom, there will always be more growth ahead.
The phrase “I press on” captures the essence of perseverance. It’s a determined effort to continue moving forward in our faith, regardless of setbacks or challenges. Pressure from the outside world, our own doubts, and the temptations of complacency can weigh us down, but Paul reminds us that the call to continue growing in Christ is worth the struggle. It is an active pursuit—one that requires diligence and commitment.
When Paul speaks of “laying hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me,” he points to the purpose we have in our lives as followers of Christ. Each of us has been called to a unique mission, a divine purpose that harmonizes with God’s greater plan. Remembering that Jesus has a specific calling for us helps us maintain focus, especially during seasons of hardship.
As we reflect on this verse today, consider what it means to press on. What are the spiritual goals you are seeking to lay hold of? Is it deeper intimacy with God? A more profound understanding of Scripture? Greater love and service to others? Whatever it may be, let us commit to pressing on, knowing we are not alone. Christ, who has called us, will equip us. Continue to seek Him, persevere in your journey, and trust that He is faithful to fulfill His promises in your life.
Thank You and God Bless
