Devotional on Mark 9:23
“Jesus said to him, ‘If you can? All things are possible for one who believes.’” — Mark 9:23 (ESV)
In this powerful verse, Jesus presents a profound truth that redefines our understanding of faith and possibility. The context finds a distraught father pleading for the healing of his son, who is tormented by an evil spirit. Faced with desperation, the father hesitates, voicing his uncertainty: “If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” It’s a relatable moment; we’ve all been there, harboring doubts in our hearts even as we reach out to God.
In response, Jesus points to the power of belief. “If you can?” is met with a gentle but firm challenge. Jesus emphasizes that the limitation does not lie in His ability but in the father’s faith. “All things are possible for one who believes” is not merely a statement; it’s an invitation to experience the fullness of God’s power through trust and faith.
