The Gospel of Luke

This gospel was authored by Luke, a physician, Gentile and good friend of Paul the apostle. The gospel is addressed to “most excellent” Theophilus who was probably an important Roman official and most likely Luke’s patron and publisher. It is a companion piece to the book of Acts, also authored by Luke, and was written in the latter half of the first century a.d.

Luke’s emphasis in this synoptic gospel is Jesus as the Messiah.
