Luke 12:6-7 Devotional

Devotional on Luke 12:6-7

You Are of More Value
Luke 12:6–7 (ESV)“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

In these verses, Jesus offers a comforting and profound assurance of God’s intimate care for His people. Sparrows were considered among the most insignificant creatures in Jesus’ time, sold cheaply in the market. Yet, Jesus declares that not one of them is forgotten before God. Not one. If God remembers even the smallest bird, how much more does He remember and care for you?

Jesus goes further to say that “even the hairs of your head are all numbered.” This is not simply a poetic phrase—it is a declaration of God’s detailed, tender knowledge of each of His children. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Our fears, our longings, our struggles—none of these are hidden from Him. His knowledge of us is personal and loving, not distant or indifferent.

This truth directly confronts fear. “Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” In the context of Luke 12, Jesus is speaking to disciples who will face persecution and difficulty. He knows fear will tempt them—fear of rejection, fear of harm, fear of being forgotten. But He gives them a reason to trust: the God who sees sparrows sees them too.

When we are tempted to believe we are overlooked, forgotten, or alone, Luke 12:6–7 speaks a better word. God sees. God cares. God knows. And God values us deeply. Our worth is not determined by the world’s standards, but by the love of the One who created us, redeemed us, and watches over us continually.

Prayer:
Father, thank You that I am never forgotten in Your sight. Help me to rest in the truth that I am known and valued by You. In moments of fear or doubt, remind me that You are near, watching over even the smallest details of my life. I trust in Your care. Amen.

Thank You and God Bless
