Devotional on Luke 10:20
“Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” – Luke 10:20 (ESV)
In this passage, Jesus reminds His disciples that while miraculous experiences, such as casting out demons, are significant, they do not define our ultimate joy. The true source of our rejoicing lies in our relationship with God and the assurance of our eternal destiny. Our names, inscribed in the Book of Life, reflect a divine promise fulfilled through grace.
Consider the disciples’ excitement after witnessing the power they had over unclean spirits. Their joy was valid, yet Jesus redirected their focus. Spiritual achievements, however impactful, should never overshadow the grace of salvation we receive through faith in Christ.
In our daily lives, it’s easy to find identity in our accomplishments or struggles. However, Jesus encourages us to shift our gaze from the temporary to the eternal. Spend a moment reflecting on your relationship with God. Are you defining your worth by your achievements or failures? Rejoice today in the knowledge that you are called, chosen, and cherished. Your name is written in heaven, and that truth is the foundation of everlasting joy.
Thank You and God Bless
