Judges 6:13-14 Devotional

Devotional on Judges 6:13-14Called Despite Our Doubts

Judges 6:13-14 (NIV): “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about? Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt? But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”

In this passage, we encounter Gideon, a man filled with doubt and uncertainty. He questions God about the dire situation facing Israel. It’s easy to relate to Gideon’s struggles; life often throws challenges at us that can make us question God’s presence and purpose. We may think, “If God is with us, why are we experiencing hardship?” Just like Gideon, we might feel abandoned during trying times.

Yet, God’s response to Gideon reveals a profound truth: God sees potential in us that we often overlook. When He calls Gideon to save Israel, He isn’t dismissing his doubts; instead, He encourages him to recognize the strength available within him. God reminds Gideon that His presence is not defined by our circumstances, but by His promises and purpose.

We too may find ourselves in situations where we doubt our ability to carry out God’s calling. Perhaps we feel inadequate or hopeless, burdened by the weight of our doubts. But God does not call the equipped; He equips the called. He takes our weaknesses and transforms them into strengths that can accomplish great things in His name.

Reflect today on the areas where you feel stuck or incapable. Remember that God is with you, urging you to go forth with the strength you possess. Trust that your doubts will not disqualify you from God’s plan; rather, they can deepen your faith as you lean on Him.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust in Your calling even amidst my doubts. Strengthen me to step out in faith, knowing You are always with me. Amen.
