Faith That Heals
Luke 8:48 (ESV) — “And he said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.’”
Luke 8:48 captures a tender and powerful moment between Jesus and a woman whose faith overcame fear. For twelve years, she had suffered from a discharge of blood—a condition that made her physically weak, socially isolated, and ceremonially unclean. No physician could heal her, and she had likely spent all she had trying to find a cure (Mark 5:26). But when she heard about Jesus, hope stirred within her.
She didn’t ask for a public healing or a grand miracle. Quietly, humbly, she reached out to touch the fringe of His garment, believing that even that small act of faith would be enough. And it was. Instantly, she was healed. But Jesus didn’t let her slip away unnoticed. He called her out—not to embarrass her, but to affirm her.
“Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.” These words speak healing far deeper than the physical. Jesus calls her “Daughter”—a term of love, inclusion, and belonging. She had likely been viewed as untouchable, unworthy, forgotten. But Jesus claims her as His own.
Her healing came not through superstition or desperation, but through faith—a faith that believed Jesus had the power and the compassion to heal. And Jesus honors that faith. He doesn’t scold her for breaking social norms or for touching Him without permission. Instead, He blesses her with peace—a peace that comes from being restored, not only in body, but in soul.
This moment reminds us that Jesus welcomes our brokenness. We may feel unworthy, ashamed, or unnoticed, but He sees us. He invites us to reach out to Him in faith. And when we do, He meets us with grace, healing, and peace.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Healer of body, heart, and soul. Like the woman who reached for You, I come in faith—knowing You are able and willing to restore what is broken. Call me Your own, fill me with peace, and help me to live each day trusting in Your compassion and power. Amen.
Thank You and God Bless
