Devotional on Leviticus 20:26
Set Apart for God
Leviticus 20:26 (ESV) — “You shall be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.”
This verse from Leviticus reveals the heart of God’s covenant with His people: a calling to holiness rooted in relationship. God tells Israel, “You shall be holy to me.” Holiness is not merely about rules or rituals—it’s about belonging. It’s about being set apart for God, to live in close fellowship with Him and reflect His character in the world.
God adds, “for I the Lord am holy.” Our call to holiness isn’t based on human effort alone but is a response to who God is. He is pure, perfect, and set apart from all evil. As His people, we are to mirror that holiness—not to earn His love, but because we already have it.
Then God says something deeply personal: “I have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.” What a powerful truth. God doesn’t just call us to be different—He calls us to be His. Holiness is not about superiority or isolation; it’s about devotion. God draws His people out of the world not to abandon it, but to transform it through those who belong to Him.
This verse speaks to our identity as believers in Christ. Peter echoes it in the New Testament, saying, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession…” (1 Peter 2:9). Because of Jesus, we are now God’s own people, set apart not by law but by grace.
So what does this mean for us today? It means we live differently—guided by the Spirit, marked by love, shaped by truth. It means we don’t blend in with the world’s values but shine with the light of Christ. Holiness is a response of love to the One who has called us His own.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for calling me to be Yours. You are holy, and You have made me Your own. Help me to live a life that reflects Your holiness—not out of obligation, but out of love for You. Set me apart for Your glory. Amen.
Thank You and God Bless
