Devotional on John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” — John 14:27 (ESV)
As Jesus prepared to leave His disciples, He knew their hearts were troubled. He had just told them He was going away, and though they didn’t fully understand, they felt the weight of His words. Into their confusion and fear, Jesus speaks comfort: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”
This is no ordinary peace. Jesus makes it clear—“Not as the world gives do I give to you.” The world offers temporary, shallow peace—peace that depends on circumstances, feelings, or distractions. It’s the kind of peace that crumbles when life gets hard. But the peace Jesus gives is different. It’s deep, lasting, and anchored in His unchanging presence.
Jesus calls it “my peace.” This is the same peace that allowed Him to sleep in a storm (Mark 4:38), to remain calm before His accusers, and to endure the cross with unwavering trust in the Father. It is the peace of perfect unity with God—a peace He now gives to those who believe in Him.
Because of this gift, Jesus tells us, “Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” This isn’t just a suggestion; it’s an invitation to trust. In a world full of anxiety and fear, Jesus offers His peace to still our hearts. No matter what chaos surrounds us, His presence brings calm. No matter what burdens we carry, His promise stands firm.
Are you anxious today? Burdened by uncertainty, grief, or fear? Jesus offers you His peace—peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7), peace that the world cannot take away.
Rest in His words. Let your troubled heart be quieted by the Prince of Peace. He has not left you alone. His Spirit dwells within you, and His peace is yours to receive.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the peace You give—peace the world cannot offer or understand. Calm my anxious heart. Teach me to trust in Your promises, and help me walk in the assurance that You are with me always. Amen.
Thank You and God Bless
