Devotional on 1 Peter 2:7 – The Precious Cornerstone
1 Peter 2:7 (NIV) – “Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.’”
In the world of construction, a cornerstone is fundamental. It is the first stone set in the foundation and establishes the position for all other stones. The significance of Jesus Christ as our cornerstone is incomparable. In 1 Peter 2:7, Peter emphasizes that to believers, Christ is precious, foundational, essential. This truth can redefine our relationship with God and His church.
Reflecting on our faith, we must ask ourselves: What does Jesus mean to us personally? In the hustle of everyday life, it’s easy to overlook His foundational role. We can easily treat Him more like an accessory than the cornerstone of our spiritual house. When we see Jesus as precious, we recognize that our value and identity are rooted in Him. He gives our lives direction and strength.
However, Peter also contrasts the believer’s perception of Christ with that of unbelievers. To those who reject Him, Jesus is merely a stone—a stumbling block. This rejection leads them away from the very foundation they need. It begs the question of how we live out our belief in Christ. Are we sharing His love and truth with those who see Him as anything less than precious? Our lives should reflect the significance of Christ as our cornerstone, inviting others to experience His transformative power.
In moments of doubt, despair, or confusion, let us return to the foundation of our faith. Remember that we stand on solid ground when we trust in Jesus. In Him, our identity is secure. He empowers us to live boldly, love deeply, and share His light with the world.
Let us celebrate the preciousness of Christ today. May our hearts echo the truth of 1 Peter 2:7 as we honor Him as our cornerstone, grounding our lives in His love and truth.
Thank You and God Bless
