Devotional on 1 Corinthians 1:2
“To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours.” (1 Corinthians 1:2, ESV)
In this opening greeting of his letter to the Corinthians, Paul presents a profound reminder of our identity and calling as believers in Christ. He addresses the church not as a gathering of individuals but as a collective—the “church of God.” This distinction emphasizes that our faith is not merely a personal endeavor but a shared experience within a community of believers.
Being “sanctified in Christ Jesus” signifies that we have been set apart for a divine purpose. To be sanctified means to be made holy, a work accomplished through Christ’s grace. In our daily lives, it’s easy to forget this calling amidst worldly distractions and pressures. However, as followers of Jesus, we carry the responsibility and honor of representing Him in every aspect of our lives.
Paul also asserts that we are “called to be saints.” This is not merely an invitation; it’s a declaration of our status in God’s eyes. Each of us, regardless of our past or present struggles, is called to reflect the character of Christ. Being identified as a saint invites us to live in a manner that exemplifies holiness, love, and service. This calling is not meant for a select few but extends to all who call upon the name of the Lord.
Moreover, Paul stresses the unity of believers across all places. We are not isolated in our faith journeys but are part of a larger family in Christ. This transcendence encourages us to support and uplift one another, recognizing that we share the same Lord and mission.
As we meditate on this verse, let it remind us of our identity, our calling, and our unity as the body of Christ. May we strive daily to live out this truth, reflecting His love and grace to the world around us.
Thank You and God Bless
